Multitrip.com reveals most common travel claims

Medical expenses were the most common cause of travel claims from UK customers in 2025, according to travel insurance provider Cover-More Blue Insurance Services Limited, which trades as Multitrip.com. Medical claims accounted for 43% of all claims with cancellation claims taking second spot (16%) and loss of person possessions holding third place (10%).

Breaking down its medical claims, the provider says the most common medical assist claims are for injuries (34%), followed by internal illnesses such as gastrointestinal, respiratory problems and ENT conditions (33%). Claims for burns, bites and skin or soft tissue injuries accounted for 10% of medical claims.

One claimant fell and injured the tendons in both knees while in the USA. After surgery and medical repatriation, the claim amounted to £391,221. At the other end of the scale, a case of food poisoning in Greece resulted in a claim costing £1,611.

Christian Bennett, spokesperson at Multitrip.com, said: “Unfortunately things can and do go wrong when we’re away from home, and travel insurance provides financial protection if a holiday doesn’t go as planned.

“A trip to a hospital in the United States, for example, can cost thousands a day before additional treatment or surgery is even added on and even in Europe medical claims are often over £1,000.’’
