Brown and Brown acquires Scottish commercial broker

Brown and Brown (Europe) Ltd has snapped up Alan R MacKay and Company Limited, trading as MacKay Corporate Insurance Brokers, which has offices in Glasgow, Ayr and Aberdeen. The deal marks Brown and Brown’s first acquisition in Scotland.

MacKay Corporate Insurance Brokers will serve as Brown and Brown’s retail hub north of the border. It was founded by Alan MacKay in 1989. His son, David, joined the firm in 1996 and succeeded his father in 2011. He leads the business with fellow directors Iain Henry and Karen Fitzgerald. The firm secured chartered status in 2010.

Carolyn Callan, chief executive officer of Brown and Brown Retail, said: “Our first acquisition in Scotland is an exciting milestone for us and creates an opportunity to expand our presence significantly across the country in the future.
