Research from Allianz UK has found that a third (34%) of SMEs do not adjust their business insurance to reflect the seasonality of their business. It has warned that this may leave them underinsured as a result of increased stock and operational demands during their busiest periods.
The research found that summer was the busiest season for 45% of SMEs. At a regional level, 58% of businesses in the North East of England said summer was their peak period while this fell to 37% for those in the East Midlands and 38% for Scottish SMEs.
Alex Ktenidis (pictured), head of digital and Allianz Legal Protection at Allianz UK, said: “Underinsurance is a genuine risk for businesses of all sizes. But as the summer season unfolds, we’re encouraging SMEs in particular to review their insurance policies.
“Business owners should check they have adequate coverage and need to consider adjusting cover to reflect increased stock and operational demands during this busy trading period. By taking these steps, SMEs can safeguard their operations and make the most of their bumper season.”
