ABI warns of claims spike due to cold weather snap

The Association of British Insurers has urged consumers to take precautions in the face of freezing weather that will prevent them needing to call on their personal lines insurance policies. The professional body highlighted the impact of freezing weather on travel, motor and home policies.

Louise Clark, senior policy adviser for general insurance at the ABI, said: “With cold weather ahead, people need to put their safety first and follow warnings and advice. Taking precautions when driving is vital, and steps should be taken to protect homes as well. Cold weather can lead to pipes freezing and bursting, and while insurance can protect against the damage caused, it can’t compensate for the stress and misery.”
